Munchkins are a relatively new breed,
with its history going as far back as the
1940's, but its development really didn't
start until the early 1980's. Munchkins
are very playfull like any other cat. They
just have shorter legs. These adorable
cats and kittens owe their short legs to a
spontaneous, naturally occuring genetic
mutation. Although the breed has
disproportionately short legs, this does
not get in its way to get around and
function as any other breed of cat. The
munchkin comes in both short or long
coats and comes in a variety of colors
and paterns. Although many say they
look like the dachshund version of the
cat world, they are not predispossed to
the same spinal problems associated
with dachshunds and other short legged
breeds.
Munchkins are recognized by The International Cat Association (TICA), The Dwarf
Cat Association (TDCA), and the American Association of Cat Enthusiast (AACE).
